Job Vacancy

This may be useful to some members (perhaps newly retired who are seeking a part time job).  I have been with Bairstow Eves in Beeston since I retired 14 years ago and I have found the role of an ‘accompanied viewer’  both enjoyable and rewarding. This advert relates to the city centre branch. The car allowance is 45p per mile plus any other expenses incurred e.g. parking.

Best wishes

HMRC TAXATION CODE

I have been in contact with Keir, they inform me they are using the codes issued to them in March by HMRC.

Before contacting Keir please check on your recent pension advice that Keir are using the same code that your were notified by HMRC.

To obtain your code you can contact HMRC direct on 0300 200 3300 using your unique reference from your pension advice should start 507/*******.

If HMRC tax code is different to the one on your pension advice request that HMRC notify Keir of the correct coding and an adjustment will be made on next months pension

If you were notified by electronic means of your Code you will need to log onto the government gateway with your own unique reference.

Please do not contact Keir direct they cannot make any adjustment they have to wait notification from HMRC before any adjustment is made.

HMRC TAXATION CODE

I have just received the following email, sadly it is one of a number and I do not see how Kier has got it so wrong this month.

“I’ve just received my April pension advice from Kier and on checking found the tax code used did not match that of the HMRC notification I received in March. I’d already checked to make sure the HMRC code was correct for my income. I called HMRC who confirmed that the had notified Kier of my correct tax code and are going to contact them again so that Kier can correct my code and tax deductions in Mays pension. With the incorrect code Kier have used I’d be paying too little tax and could have ended up with a tax bill in the future. I don’t know if the mistake by Kier to my tax coding is something that affects just me of whether it might affect other police pensioners so this is a message for all to check their HMRC tax notification against that used by Kier so as to stop others from underpaying tax or even overpaying.”

It made be that you have paid too much tax or too little you need to check

Free Tax Information for Older People

The charity Tax Help for Older People is offering FREE support during 2018 to help older people set up and view their Personal Tax Account on the HMRC website. If you know someone who could benefit from this help, please share or display the flyer linked below.

Some people feel comfortable using the HMRC website by themselves, but others, particularly those who are less confident using a computer, prefer to have a bit of extra support; and that is where we can help.

Whether it is talking through the process with an adviser over the phone as you go, or having a home visit with an adviser to guide you through each stage, we are offering help to people who:

  • are over 60;
  • are on a lower income;
  • have a computer but lack the confidence or skills to use online financial tools and services, and;
  • want to access their Personal Tax Account and could do with a bit of help.

Our information flyer can be found here. Please feel free to display this and/or share it with anyone you think could benefit from the help and that fit the above criteria.

About the Personal Tax Account:
HMRC is working to simplify the tax system by bringing more of its information together in one place. By 2020 the aim is that:

  • Form filling is reduced as the taxpayer will no longer have to tell HMRC information it already knows;
  • An individual’s tax information is up to date at all times, removing the risk of missed deadlines, unnecessary penalties, debts arising and errors in the system being carried forward; and
  • The information HMRC needs is automatically uploaded, bringing an end to the tax return.

Your Personal Tax Account allows you to view and manage your tax affairs online quickly and simply.
