| BRANCH NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2021 |
| TO MEMBERS NOTTS NARPO |
CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEARS GREETINGS
On behalf of the Branch Chairman and Committee we you like to extend the seasons greeting to all our members and hope 2022 brings a better outcome than 2021.
In 2021 at least we started getting together, the Blidworth Widows group holds regular meetings under the supervision of Gilly Hagen, and we would like to thank her for the work she has put in.
In December we managed to hold the Annual Dinner where 70+ attended at a time when restrictions were relaxed and thankfully, we have not had any notification that anyone who attended has tested positive for COVID.
Far too many people were taken early due to the pandemic, we extend our condolences to their family members, but we would like to encourage everyone who has not had their injections to get an appointment and help save even more lives.
NARPO SOCIAL FUNCTIONS AND TRIPS 2022

NARPO WELFARE CONTACTS
We get regular requests from members or their immediate family for welfare contact whilst we try to do this within the Committee, but our resources are limited.
It is not always advice that the person is after but sometimes just someone to talk to.
If you feel that you have a little time to spare and could assist, please let the Secretary John Kennedy or Assistant Secretary Brian Marshall know.
****************************************************************************
Nostalgia
If anyone has items of nostalgia that they wish to be included in the newsletter whether photos or written items, please forward to Secretary so we can include in next edition.
NARPO DATA PROTECTION POLICY
To comply with Data Protection Regulations the Secretary is in the process of entering that Data Protection and Privacy Policies on the NARPO Website members will be informed when this is complete by email.
Job Vacancies
The Secretary receives regular advertisements from various organisations which may be suitable for retired members wishing to work part-time and in some cases full time, these are now placed on our website at www.nottsnarpo.org and go to Member Services page.
Information
We have at present lost our contact with XPS Pensions and amongst somethings we have lost is the notification of when a member dies.
We would ask that when the times comes for you to move out of this world into the next, that your next of kin has the contact information for the Secretary at present John Kennedy, 9 Jessops Lane, Gedling, Nottingham. NG4 4BQ.
We have facilities to notify everyone connected with the Police and can assist with you spouses Widows Application and get it sent to XPS in a timely fashion so that no unexpected invoices arrive for repayment of Pension, and your spouse get the pension that they are entitled to immediately.
For information Pension runs on the 20th of the month anyone who sadly passes away after this date would receive their monthly pension to their bank account and sadly the Chief Constable would reclaim it by invoice.

MESSAGE FROM PETER MITCHELL WITH REGARDS TO WALKING FOOTBALL
Walking Football is an Over 50’s version of the beautiful game. It has taken off throughout Europe with most UK professional clubs, including the likes of Man City & locally Forest, County & Stags, all having teams connected to ‘in the community’ projects.
There is a Walking Football Association & they as the parent body have seen the benefit of sessions both physically & mentally to people with Parkinson’s. This initiative has seen the growth of regional teams, leading to sponsorship and fund raising for connected charities.
‘Mansfield Senior Reds Walking Football Club’ were founded in 2014 & have over 100 members, with a wide span of abilities, boasting an extremely strong Over 65’s section! At the Mansfield Sports recognition Awards they were ‘Team of the Year’ in 2018 and are currently ‘Club of the Year’ awarded in 2019 in recognition of their own field activities & charity fund raising.
There are a significant number of NARPO members who attend the clubs twice weekly sessions held at Mansfield Rugby Club. If covid & any current regulations allow it is hoped to hold a ‘Parkinson’s only’ Walking Football session at the Rugby Club from 11am on Wednesday 26th January, with the cost sponsored by Mansfield Senior Reds. If there is sufficient interest it is hoped that a regular weekly session could evolve at a nominal cost per head.
Mansfield have at least 3 members with Parkinson’s & feel that the 20 plus Walking Football clubs throughout the county and many unattached players could identify a significant number of people who may benefit. I ask that if anyone is interested in this project that they get in touch with Peter on 07837 66 1703 to book a place. The sessions are held outside on an artificial surface. All that is required is attendance in football kit or tracksuit etc with pimple soled trainers or the like suitable for the artificial surface. Everyone signs up to play at their own risk & must provide emergency contact details with relevant medical history & any allergies. Safety being the main consideration.”

NEWSLETTER 12021
BRANCH COMMITTEE & AGM
It is again that time of year when we are planning the AGM for 9th April 2021, it is hoped that the lockdown will have eased by this time but very unlikely, we have to get a number of items signed off at an AGM, so at present we are making arrangements for an online AGM and a link will be sent to members who have an email address to join the virtual meeting, this is a closed meeting for members only and should not under any circumstances be published on Social Media, this obviously put those who are not on the internet at a disadvantage and so written questions can be put to the Secretary for discussion.
Any correspondence in relation to this should be directed to the Secretary John Kennedy and must be received at the latest by 18th March 2021, as the Agenda will be set by the Committee on 19th March.
Whilst on the subject we are actively looking for members to join the committee details and a nomination form can be found on our website at http://www.nottsnarpo.org.

The Social Committee and NARPO are interested is organising or supporting other events once we can all get together again, trips, Reunions even afternoon teas, if you have any suggestion please the Secretary know by email or writing to the address shown on the Membership Page so that they can be discussed and if suitable arranged or funded.

NATIONAL DAY OF REFLECTION
Since the first lockdown began in 2020, hundreds of thousands of people have died. Too many lives have been cut short and millions have been bereaved.
Behind the statistics and whatever the cause, every death has been devastating for the people left behind. Many have been unable to properly say goodbye to their loved ones, comfort or even hug each other.
As a nation, we need to acknowledge the millions in silent pain. So, join us on 23 March, the first anniversary of the first UK lockdown, for a National Day of Reflection.
Let us come together and reflect on this tragic loss of life, show support for people who have been bereaved and celebrate the lives of all those who have died.
There are still tough times ahead, as the death toll continues to rise. So, whatever your background, whatever your beliefs, and whatever you have been through, please join us for our first National Day of Reflection.
This annual day will give us all time to pause and think about this unprecedented loss we are facing and support each other through grief in the years to come.
NARPO’s involvement would be to support the Day, in the run up to it and on the Day itself. This will be through our communications channels, such as our website, social media, and messages to Branches.
There will be Toolkits supplied by Marie Curie to support the Day and these should be available soon.
You can find out more information on their website at mariecurie.org.uk/dayofreflection

NARPO EMAILS AND CORRESPONDENCE
We are receiving many rejected emails, in the main they are coming back as hacked or spam, can I ask that members check their spam boxes and if NOTTS NARPO emails appear there please click and state from a trusted source.
Once the new CRMS system comes online at the National Office in May two rejections will automatically remove your email from the system.
It would appear that ntlworld email addresses have been spammed, which necessitated the Assistant Secretary Brian Marshall having to change his personal email, but as a result of a recent email some confusion has arisen with regards to email address for Notts NARPO, can I remind members that in the first instance all correspondence should be directed to The Secretary, John Kennedy, at home address or via email Nottinghamshire@narpo.org, this is a secure email address and may prevent unwanted spam and phishing emails.
From 1 May 2021 NARPO is updating it system and then the Assistant Secretary Brian Marshall will also have a dedicated secure email address.
Please delete from you contact list any other email addresses you have for Notts NARPO.
If you have moved address recently? have you notified XPS Pensions? If a Pension Advice is returned marked ‘Gone Away’ or ‘Not Known at this address’ XPS may suspend payments until your whereabouts are established contact them at Penmail@xpsgroup.com.

Underpaid Women’s State Pension
Married women who hit state pension age before April 2016 and get less than 60% of their husband’s basic state pension are entitled to a boost up to that 60% figure. And any increase can possibly be backdated for years (the basic state pension for 2020/21 is a maximum of £134.25 – your husband may get more than this amount in top-ups, but you need to compare your basic state pension with his basic state pension for this). Go to the DWP Website for more information.

Pension and Widows entitlements
Your Secretary is getting quite a lot of queries with regards to pension entitlements and Widows Entitlement.
This is a complicated area and depends on several factors, most commonly which scheme did you retire under, whether it is a pre- or post-retirement marriage and how many contributions you made.
To simplify the matter if you receive a Pension through XPS go to myownpension.org.uk.
(This is exclusively for those receiving a pension from XPS). Members who receive a pension from another provider may have to check their own provide for their link.
You will have a choice of ‘register’ or ‘sign in’ If you are already registered with XPS just sign in, if not click register and follow the steps. They will then email you a link. Click on the link and it you should be taken to a site to sign in.
When you sign in you will be offered several things about XPS. The one you want is the one which refers to pensions.
