Sponsorship Request

Sonia Kendal who worked at Central front counter for many years, is taking part in a sponsored swim on 18/11/2017 at Lenton baths between 1215-1315 .
Sadly Sonia had been diagnosed with terminal cancer however with support from Paul Moore and his wife , she wants to raise enough money to buy an interactive game for children having treatment for cancer . She’s hoping to raise £1000 . She’s going to do her best in the pool but Paul and others will swim in her behalf.
Sonia wants something positive to come from her situation and wants to give children something to distract them through thier treatment. It would be fabulous to raise enough by the day of her swim

It would be lovely for people to show support at the poolside and all are welcome to cheer them on.
Sonia would also like to hear from old colleague s.
Please contact me , Paul , Stan and Bernie Kingsbury for her number

Donations can be made at the event or through any of the above persons . Donations can also be made on line or to me at Oxclose police station ( PP) . Please contact me and I will provide options and payment methods.

Many thanks

Quiz Night – Mrs G Hagen

Things are settling down a little this end for me.  But the loss can never be replaced.  However, as I said sincere thanks to NARPO friends for their support.

I am e-mailing you tonight to let you know of a fund raising project Brian & I have been involved in for local rural villages, which is to get community based defibrillator units sited in easy access for trained public to use.

We are now with the commitments of the Abbey Medical Practice dedicating this scheme for Brian’s memory and we have various fund-raising events planned.  I attach a copy of the poster.

The first of these will be a Quiz Night plus pie & pea supper (vegetarian option as well ) on Friday 17th November, at Ravenshead Village Hall NG15 9BP.  Tickets are £8 adults & £4 children.  There is a bar and we have a excellent raffle as well.  We welcome couples and teams of up to 10 people.   I enclose the poster.

If anyone wants to come along they need to ring me before the 10th November on -07816933429 or Pete Challenger 01623 461134 to book a place.

Next year on the 3rd of March we are having a Big Band Evening to raise funds.  More information about this in the New Year.

Best Wishes Gillian

Department of Transport Consultation

The Department for Transport has opened a consultation on a Draft Accessibility Plan which sets out proposals to improve the travel experience for older and disabled people. The Government is seeking to understand what more needs to be done to improve accessibility, and ensure that everyone has access to vital transport links.

As you may know, NARPO has been campaigning through Later Life Ambitions to ensure that there is adequate assistance for older people on trains as well as necessary provision for the assistance and protection of health and safety for older passengers. We are keen to ensure that all our members have access to good quality, reliable transport services, with the necessary support and understanding of drivers and transport staff delivering these services.

We would therefore encourage you to respond to the consultation and share your views, whether this is on the subject of accessibility, travel costs, service frequency or staffing levels.

If you would like to respond to the consultation,  you can email your comments to AAPConultation@dft.gsi.gov.uk, or write to:

Retirement Jon (Bomber ) Harris

Firstly I apologise if you do not know me but got a generic list off a few places…

Anyway, I am due to retire at Midnight December 6th, after joining the old bill back in the olden days…Sept 1981….

Not sure how I blagged 36 years, when I was sacked as a Cadet 105, by C/I Ogden for a freakish dart accident..…. thankfully Sgt Geoff Pearce saved me… foolish of him no doubt..

So through the St Ann’s – Pc 1346, The Miners Dispute, Carlton (not the editor of the Carlton Courier), Bermuda – Pc 569, Beach Squad –Narcotics, Back to Blighty – Pc 715, Oxclose Lane… Bermuda to Bestwood ?…. SOU-FS-TSG-TST etc. etc… The Unit, Custody and finally the Control Room…

Representing Notts/Bermuda Police at Football, Cricket, Golf, Snooker, Darts and obviously Rugby… One of Notts Police only INTERNATIONAL rugby player… as featured in March 2003 Rugby World… not sure I have ever mentioned that…?

Regardless… it has been an ABSOLUTE blast the majority of the time… we have all had highs/lows but the ups by far outweigh some of the rubbish… I have worked with some top top quality people, sadly some of whom are no longer with us but it has been a gas… and I feel honoured to have been a part of a real band of brothers and sisters…

Anyway, I ramble….. some of you may know I like a little drink every now and then…. So I am having an elegant soirée ? is that how it is spelt…? Will be a couple of quid behind the bar and a few nibbles…

So my good lady Sally and I …

Would like to invite you to the following gig…

It is from 6pm on Thursday 23rd of November 2017 (cheaper than December rates – so a few days before I officially leave)

It is at The Riverside Gallery – Brewhouse and Kitchen, Trent Bridge – NG2 2GS

In old money, that is upstairs at was formerly known as The Town Arms and then called The Aviary…. Trent Bridge gives you the clue…

Please feel free to pass it to those who you think may want to come…

You can obviously ignore if not coming but if you are can you reply to this email – by text 07725210700 or email tobomber715569@yahoo.com

Just so I can get an idea if catering for 2 or ten…

Many Thanks

Bomber Harris
