Book of Condolence – Former Notts Officer – Robert John McPhee

A short time ago, I spoke to Helen Sheard, a retired Notts Sergeant who explained that a friend of hers has recently passed. The details of the individual are:

Former Inspector Robert John McPhee (known as John) who served for several years in Notts and then left on promotion to West Mids. It is believed that he retired from West Mids in 2015 having worked at Ryton also.

John passed unexpectedly at his home in Shropshire on the 2nd August 2025 aged 63. He leaves his wife, Amanda Whitlock McPhee and his two children Harriet and Rory.

The details of the funeral are:

Tuesday 19th August 2025 at 1.30pm at Holy Trinity Church, Much Wenlock, Shropshire, TF13 6HR. This is followed by another ceremony at 2.30pm at Holy Trinity Church Barton, TF13 6QD and a wake at Broseley Social Club TF12 5HL.

I kindly ask that there is notification of Robert’s passing so that those who would like to pay their respects can do so.

  1. Sad to hear of John’s passing. I remember him from his Nottinghamshire days, where he went under the nickname “Shoey”, and then I bumped into him as a W. Mids Sgt on a pre-retirement course in 2011.

    Rest in Peace John.

    Condolences to his family.

  2. Very sad news. Next door but one to me in the Trainers block at Ryton for the best part of 2 years. Lots of chats during that time putting the world to absolute rights.

    RIP John. 😔😔

  3. I was surprised to hear of John’s passing and have fond memories of working with John in our Uniform days at Beeston when we were both very young in service and he lived off Bramcote Lane Chilwell. We both moved to Radford Road at similar times. I lost touch with John personally when he went into training and transferred forces but we regained contact following our retirements through Social Media. Always known as Shughie, always had a smiley face and time for a you. My thoughts are with John’s family and friends at this difficult time

So saddened to hear of Johns passing. I worked with him when he was at Smethwick, West Midlands. Having just retired after my 30 years I can honestly say that no one came close to him as a supervisor. A truly nice, friendly and honest person and those who served with him over this side all have the same high opinion of him.

My thoughts and love go out to his family at this time.

  5. funeral is at 1pm.

John joined the Nottinghamshire Police Force aged 19. He served at Beeston, Radford Road and as a trainer at Epperstone and Ryton before moving to the West Midlands Police.

He had two children from his first marriage and two from his second.
