  1. When i joined the Police and started at Hyson Green, I met a cop working an adjoining area named Alan Barlow. I recognised this man as someone that I knew but could not remember where from. After a few minutes we realised that we had both been apprentices at the same printing company W H Knapp Ltd in Basford Nottingham. Alan was a smashing bloke and always shared a laugh whenever we met. He knew his area well and was a good copper. Rest in peace Alan.

  6. Worked at Canning with Alan in the late 1980s & early 1990s. Alan was a good old fashioned beat copper and a likeable man who had everyone respect.

    RIP Alan.

  8. ‘I was very sad to hear that Alan had passed away. As a very green probationer in 1978, he showed me round and looked after me in the madhouse that was Canning Circus. He was a very kind and thoughtful chap with a good sense of humour and infinite patience, which I often tested thoroughly. He perfectly summed up ‘old school coppering’ and I never heard a bad word said of him – everyone liked Al. My deepest condolences to his family.’
