It is with sadness that I report the death of Retired Police Sergeant Michael John NORTH Ps1377 aged 80yrs who sadly passed away in the Queens Medical Centre on the 21st February 2025 after a short illness.
Sergeant NORTH joined the Police Service in October 1966 and retired in October 1996. He served at Carlton, Keyworth, Beeston and Newark.
He leaves his wife Anthea, daughters Rachael and Jane and grand-daughter Chloe.
This is a recent notification so at this time there is no further information. Any funeral arrangements will be updated in due course.
Our thoughts and condolences are extended to the family at this very sad time.

RIP John a true gentleman and a great officer fond memories of John whilst at Beeston on the CID when he was a custody officer there. Condolences to all his family.

Such a sad day to hear of the passing of John. He was a Sgt at Beeston on the infamous four section, later Custody Sgt. Very knowledgeable, wise, friendly (with tongue in cheek) and was an avid user of the “ways and means act”. The jobs got done. May you rest in Peace John

So very sorry to hear of Johns passing and heartfelt condolences to Anthea, Racheal Jane and his wider family. i was fortunate to work with John in the mid 70’s and the valuble lessons I learned from him held me in good stead for the 30 years I had on the job. He was the consumate professional Police Officer. With the community he policed he was firm but fair and I think that I can say without fear of contradiction that he didn’t suffer fools gladly as certain ne’er do wells found to their cost. Thank you John for your advice, guidance and friendship.

My thoughts go to Anthea and family. John was a lovely individual and I remember having deep philosophical chats with him. He was a great asset to the Force and our village community.

My thoughts go out to Anthea (Mrs North to those of us who were in her HE class at SW Comp) and the girls. John was a lovely individual who had time for everyone. As a neighbour, I remember having many theological chats with him and learning a lot from him.
He was an asset to the Force and our community in Keyworth. RIP John.

I was so sad to hear of John’s passing. A truly nice bloke in every way. Gently spoken but an excellent Sergeant on my section at Newark in the 80’s. Whether on patrol or in the custody suite his calming manner soon quietened matters and brought leadership to any situation. Thoroughly respected by all and a very sad loss. RIP John and my sincere condolences to Anthea and the family.

A very sad day to hear of the passing of John. He was my custody Sgt at Beeston when I moved there in 1994. Very knowledgeable and friendly (most of the time! normally my fault when he wasn’t) and really knew how to run a small custody suite. Remember his final night shift with great fondness, and the good nature with which he took our parting “gifts”. May you rest in Peace John

John was the epitome of a good copper. Firm but fair with a true sense of right and wrong. We had some great years at Beeston with the brilliant men and women of 4 Section. He was a true friend. What a loss. My heart goes out to Anthea and his girls.

Very sad to hear of John’s passing. He was my patrol Sergeant and then custody Sergeant at Beeston in the early 90s, very knowledgable, and as others have said, a calming influence. Suffice to say I learnt loads from him, and he had a significant influence on me at an early stage of my career. Fondly remember his sidekick Ted the snap box! Condolences to Anthea and his family. RIP.
