Notification of the death of a retired Police Officer

Colin Edward Rawlinson

It is with sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Colin Edward Rawlinson, aged 82 years, a retired Police Officer.   Colin died on Thursday 19 November 2020.   Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.

Before joining the Police,  Colin served in the Royal Marines and was part of the contingent that went to Egypt during the Suez Crisis.    After leaving the Marines he joined the County Force in 1957 and his first posting was at Sutton in Ashfield.  After that he served at many Stations and Departments, mainly in the C.I.D.   He retired in 1989.

His wife Claire died earlier this year.   Colin was a keen golfer and was the Captain at the Coxmoor Golf Club.     His son Adrian, will be holding a small gathering at Coxmoor Golf Club once it is safe to do so and will be scattering both Colin and Claire’s ashes on the 7th hole where Claire once hit a hole in one.

  11. What a brilliant leader and motivator. Inspirational to the young Detective which was me. Always had the time, always had the answer, appreciative, and never harshly criticised your error of judgement. On top of that just a thoroughly nice bloke. If only there were more leaders like him today. Rest in peace Sir. Top Gaffer.

  13. I worked with Colin, he was my Uniform Inspector, and later my D/I, and higher. A thoroughly nice man, a great gaffer, the best gaffer I worked with. Rest in peace my friend.

  15. I didn’t actually work with Colin, but I had lots of connection with him through Police Golf. He was a real Gentleman and a wonderful man to play golf with. He will be sorely missed. RIP Colin

  16. Sad news indeed. Knew Colin for most of my service and it is a privalige to have done so; A first class Detective, and inspiration to many, and a thorough gentleman . He will be missed by many.. May you and Claire Rest in Peace together .

  17. I spent many a happy hour on the golf course with you Colin, as well as at work. I have a long list of wonderful memories of our time at Coxmoor and other courses all over the Midlands! You will be sadly missed by all who knew you. RIP my friend.

  20. A great colleague and a good friend.. We worked together in both uniform and CID throughout our service and you could not have had a better man to work with. An outstanding policeman. We were next door neighbours in police houses at Sutton in Ashfield for several years and we have remained good friends ever since. Both Sandra and I send our condolences to Adrian.

  21. RIP Colin. A Gentleman & top man. 1st Class Policeman, always very smartly dressed. When he walked in a room it lit up! Will be sadly missed by his former Police colleagues, an inspiration to anyone who knew him. Never to be forgotten.

  28. I had not seen Colin for many years. He joined around the same time as my Dad (Gordon “Jock” Hallam) He and his wife often holidayed with my parents before they all had kids. His daughter Sharon was in the year above me at school. My thoughts are with the family.

  29. I just wanted to send a message of thanks from myself and on behalf of our family for the wonderful comments that have been left for Dad. To know he was so loved and respected is a great comfort.

    We remain in challenging so I’m heartbroken that I cannot give Dad, initially, the send off he so truly deserves but I will, once we are able, arrange a gathering at Coxmoor Golf Club where we can meet, chat and celebrate his, and Claire’s, life.

    Once again thank you for your kind words, they really do mean a lot.

  30. Colin was a top man and a true gentleman in every sense. Well respected and liked by everyone, which says it all. He will be sadly missed.
