  1. Shocked and saddened to hear this. I worked with Barbara at Sutton in Ashfield in the 70’s. She was PW89 and I was PW86. Good times at Sutton and lots of laughs. Rest in peace Barbara.

  2. I never knew you as a police officer but I heard funny stories of your policing days from your Godmother a few years back. However, I got to know you through the Polish church. I have to say that it is a great honour to have known you. You did so much for the Polish community and other charities for which everyone who I know, who knows you, are so grateful for everything you did. I can not imagine the Polish community without you being in the centre. I know that you are going to be sincerely missed by everyone. Your early departure has shocked and saddened our family more than you’ll ever know. It is so sad that you will not have the funeral you deserve. I hope that we will be able to celebrate your life at a later date though. We have lit candles at home for you.
You, John and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Rest In Peace. Wieczny Odpoczynek racz jej dac Panie. x

  3. Both Barbara and I spoke at the funeral of her ex-Sgt, Trevor Parker, circa 2003. She paid a very moving tribute to Trevor and her final words as she addressed the coffin were, ” Goodnight, Sarge!” The term,’ There wasn’t a dry eye in the house,’ applied. RIP Barbara – so young.

A coincidence that I worked with members of her family prior to my joining the police. My sincere condolences to John and their family.RIP Barbara.

  7. Barbara was a member of the League of Hospital Friends for over 30 years during which time she made her mark with a straightforward common sense approach to its work and her beleif in its aims. She became the Chairman of the Fund-raising committee, relinquishing this post on her appointment as a trustee where her contribution and advice were much valued.
Her great and lasting achievement will be as the prime mover for the two charity shops in Forest Town, which over the last 10 years raised £352,000 from which the three hospitals which the League supports (King’s Mill, Mansfield Community and the Millbrook Mental Health Unit)have all benefited from grants enabling them to purchase medical equipment, TV’s, radios and various items of furniture for a sensory garden. This amazing amount could not have been achieved without Barbara’s dedication, guidance and organisational ability.
It is all too easy to say that some will be missed: in this instance it is all too true – so it is my sad privilege to acknowledge the outstanding and lasting contribution that Barbara has made to this charity and for which she will always be remembered.
I must also record my own personal and heartfelt thanks for the friendship and support she extended to me over many years. It was all very special.

Barbara Joule, Chairman, League of Hospital Friends.
