John Dwyer, a former Nottinghamshire officer who subsequently became ACC Cheshire and then Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, to publicise his memoirs
He began his police career at Mansfield and reached the rank of Inspector locally before moving on; his wife worked in the publications department at HQ. Many will remember him and may be interested in his book.
Attached is the publicity document which perhaps you might circulate either by an email or in a subsequent newsletter.
As an ex Nottinghamshire Police Officer and IPA Member
I am pleased to tell you that my memoirs are now published.
Discover how I:
· Walked 42 miles on a funeral march
· Performed traffic duty in full British uniform in Germany
· Used my ventriloquist dummy as an ice breaker on a course
· Found a burglar lying low in a freezer
· Allowed the unit under my command to cause striking miners to laugh
· Established the first Regional Police Air Unit in the Midlands
· Was saddened at the murder of a police colleague
· Helped the Government to restore normality after the fuel crisis of 2000
· Influenced the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency to alter its approach to the classification of motor vehicle insurance write-offs
· Became the first Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire
· Refused to toe the Government Party line over austerity measures
· Feel strongly that politics and policing don’t mix and the Police and Crime Panel should be totally independent of party politics
· Saved £5m and increased the Cheshire Police establishment whilst wrestling with Government austerity measures
· Was praised in Parliament by the Home Secretary for my ‘excellent work as Police and Crime Commissioner’
All this, and more, is included in my memoirs ‘Plodding to the top – the journey from police constable to Police and Crime Commissioner’ which is now available. The book contains a series of anecdotes – some serious, some sad, some humorous but all of them engaging.
