Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – Nigel Spencer

It is with sadness that I report the death of Nigel Ralph SPENCER 84yrs a Retired Police Superintendent who sadly passed away in a Sutton in Ashfield Care Home on the 18th January 2025 He was a widower. his wife, Pamela having passed away herself several years ago.

Nigel joined the Police Service in July 1963 and retired in the Rank of Superintendent in March 1998.

There will be a Cremation Service at 10am Friday 14th February 2025 at Mansfield Crematorium, Derby Road, Mansfield, Nottingham. The family would welcome friends and former colleagues to attend to pay their respects should they wish to do so.

The Undertakers are Ken GREGORY Funeral Services of Nottingham Road, Mansfield.

Book of Condolence – Spouse of a Member – Lynn Jacks

It is with sadness that I report the death of Lynn Joyce JACKS 72yrs who sadly passed away on the 27th October 2024 after a long illness at her Mansfield home. Lynn had been wheelchair bound for over 8 years and became susceptible to other health issues.

Lynn was the spouse of Retired Police Officer Lewis (Lew) JACKS formerly of the Nottinghamshire Police and who spent considerable service within Special Branch.

Due to the late notification the funeral had already passed and the Undertakers were the Cooperative Funeral Services at Mansfield.

Lynn leaves her husband Lew. son Andrew, Daughter Caroline and 5 Grandchildren.

Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – Norman Fox

It is with sadness that I report the death of Retired Police Inspector Norman Arthur FOX aged 94yrs who sadly passed away at his Arnold home on the 1st January 2025.

Norman joined the Police Service (County Police) in August 1955 and retired in March 1989. He joined the Service working at Hucknall Police Station and subsequently became the Village ‘Bobby’ at Gotham. He also worked at Arnold and later in Service became the Inspector in Charge of the Guildhall Cell Block from where he subsequently retired.

Norman had been a widower for over 27 years, his dear wife Muriel having passed away all that time ago.

He leaves his Son Stephen and Daughter Jane and four Grandchildren, Robert, Richard, Jason and Adam.

His funeral arrangements are as follows:

A Cremation Service will take place at Bramcote Crematorium, Coventry Lane, Bramcote, Nottingfham at 11.30am Tuesday 28th January 2025. Thereafter there will be a Celebration of his Life to be held at The British Legion Club, Bramcote Lane, Wollaton, Nottingham  NG8 2ND.

The family would welcome friends and former colleagues to attend and pay their respects should they wish to do do,

Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – Geoffrey David Stafford

It is with sadness that I report the death of Retired Police Officer Geoffrey David STAFFORD Pc219 who was 76yrs of age and who passed away after a short illness in Kings Mill Hospital on the 27th December 2024.

Geoff leaves his wife Janet Margaret at her Mansfield Woodhouse home, daughters Claire and Carolynn, son Dean and Grandson Joseph.

Geoff joined the Police Service in September 1971 and retired in September 2003. He had spent most of his service at Sutton in Ashfield but had spent a short time within Community Affairs were he had benefited from a trip to the United States where he trained as a DARE Officer. He was one of the very first officers within Nottinghamshire Police to present this within Notts.

Details of Geoff’s funeral which is the 5th February 2025 at Mansfield Crematorium.

Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – David Palmer

It is with sadness that I report the death of Retired Police Inspector David John PALMER 77yrs who sadly passed away in the City Hospital, Nottingham on the 7th December 2024 following a short illness.

David joined the Nottingham City Police in October 1967 and retired in May 1998 in the rank of Inspector. He worked at Central Police Station and subsequently Traffic at the old Nottingham Traffic Wing. He also worked as a Student Instructor at Pannal Ash for two years and at the time of his retirement he was at Community and Race Relations at FHQ.

He leaves his wife Barbara, daughter Susan, sons Ian and Keith and 9 Grandchildren.

A Cremation Service will take place at 3pm Friday 24th January 2025 at Gedling Crematorium, Catfoot Lane, Lambley, Nottingham NG4 4QH. The family would welcome friends and former colleagues to attend and pay their respects should they wish to do so.

The undertakers are Graham WARD Funeral Services of Hucknall, Nottingham.

Donations to the benefit of the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research can be made at the service on the day or via WARD’s Funeral Services.

Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – Julian Smith

This is a very early notification and I have little information at this time but I have been informed of the sad death of Retired Police Superintendent Julian Russell SMITH 77yrs who sadly passed away late yesterday the 16th December 2024. As soon as I am able to speak to family and report fully I will update members accordingly.

Julian Russell SMITH sadly passed away on the 16th December 2024. It is well known that he had suffered Parkinson’s Disease for some years which had recently been aggravated by the onset of dementia removing his ability to get about completely.

Julian joined to Police Service in January 1969 and retired in the Rank of Superintendent in June 1997. Throughout his Police Service, in the various ranks he served at Beeston, The Meadows, Central, Mansfield, Clifton and Vice Squad and other locations. Those that knew would tell of his love of buying and selling anything quirky.

He leaves his wife Margaret, daughters Natalie and Katie and 3 Grandchildren.

Funeral RUSHCLIFFE OAKS CREMATORIUM, STRAGGLETHORPE NOTTS 1.15PM 7/1/2025.
