Death of a Police Widow Velnah Dean

It is with sadness that I report the death of Police Widow Velnah Thirza DEAN 90 yrs who sadly passed away at her Derbyshire home on the 6th February 2024. Vehnah had been involved in the Road Traffic collision in January 2023 and unfortunately lost a leg. She never really recovered from this accident and over the past months her health had deteriorated..

Velnah was the widow of Retired Officer Mervyn George William (Dixie) DEAN retired Pc1057 who himself passed way in 1991. She is also the mother of Retired Officer Michael (Dixie) DEAN Pc483. She also leaves a daughter CATHERINE.

At this time there are no funeral plans but these will be posted in due course.

The Undertakers are Trafford Lowe Funeral Services, of Somercotes, Derbyshire.

Our thoughts and condolences are extended to the family at this very sad time.

It is with sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Mervyn Walter Headland, aged 91 years, a retired Special Constable.    Mervyn died on Sunday 3 April 2022.   Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.

The funeral took place at St Giles Church at Elksley on Wednesday 20 April 2022.

Mervyn joined the Nottinghamshire Force as a Special Constable and served for 32 years and retired as Commandant.  No further details known.

Book of Condolence – Spouse of a Member and Support Staff – J Anna Ludlow

it is regret that we have to inform you of the death of Anna Ludlow, aged 69, a retired member of the support staff and wife of Andrew Ludlow, support staff, died on Sunday 10 April, 2022.

In accordance with Anna’s wishes there is no funeral and the cremation has been arranged by Pure Cremation in Andover.

Anna worked for many years in a variety of admin posts including HQ Admin; Personnel and Training but was perhaps best known as Duties Manager at Mansfield Divisional HQ. She retired in 2014.

Tony joined the County Force in 1961 and served West Bridgford, Newark, Bingham, Beeston, Meadows and Central.  He retired as Chief Inspector in 1988.

Along with the wishes of Kenneth there will not be a funeral service only a private cremation.

Ken joined the City Force in 1954 and served mainly on Central Division.  He retired in 1984 after completing thirty years service.   His collar number was 778.    His wife, Winifred, died in 2020.

It is with sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Kenneth Brynley Humphreys, aged 83 years, a retired Police Officer.   Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday 19 April 2022 in Spain in line with the Spanish system.

Kenneth joined the City Cadets is 1955 and became a regular Officer in 1957.  He served on Northern Division, Drug Squad, C.I.D. and retired as a Detective Inspector in 1986.  He was a keen sportsman and played for a number of Police teams, including rugby.   His collar number was 355.

It is with regret that I have to inform you of the death of Arthur Eagle that occurred on 18th April 2022 after a long illness with Dementia.

Arthur collar number 979 joined the Combined Constabulary in 1970 and retired in 1998, serving at central and canning Circus.

There will be refreshments after will be at the British Legion Club on  Beard all Street, Hucknall  NG15 7RA. .

Jean joined the County Force in 1955 and served at Worksop, Ollerton, Worksop C I D, Station Street, and Shirehall.   She retired in 1985,  Her collar number was Sergeant 45.
