Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – James Michael Barnes

It is with sadness that I report the death of Retired Police Dog Handler James Michael BARNES 84yrs (Retired Pc47) who sadly passed away after illness at his Selston home on the 22nd May 2024.

Mick joined the Nottingham City Police  in 1965 working at Central and Canning Circus. Later he became a Police Dog Handler from where he retired in 1980. He was a widower, his wife Brenda having passed away in 2020.

Prior to his Police Service, Mick had been a Collier at a local mine.

Mick has a Step-Daughter Lindsay

Mick was married previously and has children, Gary Barnes (PC Barnes, 1478, retired), Estella, his wife (Daughter in Law) and Teresa Bradshaw (nee Barnes) (Daughter) with Viv Bradshaw, her husband.
There are also his grandchildren, Paul, Luke, Pearl and Holly and six great grandchildren.

Sadly both spouses are deceased

His passing was only reported today so as you will appreciate, at this time there are no funeral arrangements. These will be posted in due course together with a photograph of Mick which is being sent to me later today.

Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – Alan Linley

Retired Police Inspector Allan LINLEY sadly passed away in hospital on the 18th May 2024. Having now spoken to his family I am able to update with some information and funeral arrangements.

Sadly his start date is still unknown but he retired from the Nottinghamshire Police in the late 1980’s. He was 78 yrs at the time of his death.

He served at Beeston as both Constable and Sergeant and also as a Sergeant at Beeston. For a time he was the Force Firearms Officer and also served at Headquarters as Inspector and Force Control Room Inspector. In 1978 he was the Staff Officer for the then Chief Constable Charles Mc LAUGHLIN.

Allan was quite the sportsman attending the Southwell Athletics Club and he was an active member of the Force Rugby team and was described as quite a handy scrum half.

Allan was a widower, his wife Susan having died in November 2021. He leaves two daughters Emma and sister Sarah.

A Cremation Service will take place at The Rushcliffe Oaks Crematorium, Main Road, Stragglethorpe, Nottingham NG12 2PY at 10.45am Monday 3rd June 2024. Afterwards there will be a Celebration of his Life commencing at 11.45am the same day to be held at The Rushcliffe Golf and Country Club which I understand is near to the Crematorium

The family would welcome friends and former colleagues to attend should they wish to pay their respects.

I have been asked to query the location of the Celebration of Life for Allan. I have spoke to his daughter and she has confirmed that it is at The Nottinghamshire Golf Club (Formerly) Cotgrave Golf Club which is the one near to the Crematorium apparently. Not as previously described.

Book of Condolence – Spouse of Retired Officer – Margaret Seymour

t is with sadness that I report the death of a spouse of a Retired Police Officer. Margaret Elsie SEYMOUR 74yrs sadly passed away on the 5th May 2024 after a long illness. She was the wife of Retired Dc693 Keith SEYMOUR. Keith had worked mainly around the City at The Guildhall and Canning Circus. Margaret had suffered with Alzheimer’s for some 10 years.

A Cremation Service will take place on Tuesday 28th May 2024 at 10am at The Gedling Crematorium, Catfoot Lane, Lambley, Nottingham. Thereafter there will be a Celebration of her Life held at The Lambley Public House, Manis Street, Lambley. Keith would welcome friends and former colleagues to attend should they wish to pay their respects. For catering purposes Keith asks that if you are attending the Celebration of her Life can you let him know by email at markeith100@yahoo.co.uk

The undertakers are Baggaley’s Funeral Services of Mansfield Road, Sherwood, Nottingham.

Keith has made no specific requests re donations at this time but anyone wishing to donate can do so at the Cremation Service.

Book of Condolence – Police Widow – Maureen Joyce Forsyth

It is with regret that I have to inform you of the death of Maureen Joyce Forsyth.

Maureen Joyce FORSYTH was the widow of Retired Police Superintendent John (Jock) FORSYTH. She sadly passed away on the 6th May 2024. Jock had passed away in 2012.

The funeral arrangements are as follows:

A burial service will take place at St Giles Church, Main Street, Balderton, Newark NG24 3LL at 11am Wednesday 12th June 2024 followed by her burial at the same church where she will be re-untied with her beloved husband Jock. Due to unforeseen circumstances no Celebration of Life has yet been arranged but this will be detailed in the Order of Service at the funeral. The family would welcome friends and former colleagues to attend should they wish to do so and pay their respects.

Ladies Day

Ladies Day is scheduled for 1pm Saturday 1st June 2024 at the Stadium Leisure Centre, Nottingham Road, Basford, the will be a Meal provided, of the salad variety.

A number of members have indicated that they wish to attend and they will be contacted within the next few days, if you require transport please let me know as soon as possible so that it can be arranged.

If any member can assist on the day with transport and have not already indicated please let me know by putting a comment at the bottom of this page and I will contact you, those that have already indicated that they can provide transport will be contacted within the next few days

Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – John Moor Burton Gough

It is with sadness that I report the death of Retired Police Officer John Moore Burton GOUGH 86yrs (Retired Pc715) who sadly passed away on the 4th May 2024 after a long illness. John joined the Police Service in October 1966 and retired in October 1992. He spent his initial service on the old South Division before moving to CID at Hyson Green, The Regional Crime Squad and subsequently Hucknall from where he retired.

He leaves his wife Patricia and children Lorna, Russell and Ian.

At this time there are no funeral arrangements but these will be posted in due course.

Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – David John Kirk

It is with sadness that I report the death of Retired Police Officer David John KIRK 73yrs (Retired Police Constable 1874) who sadly passed away after a relatively short illness on the 4th May 2024.

Dave joined  the Nottinghamshire Police on the 21st June 1976 and retired on the 13th March 2006. Dave spent most of his service as a Traffic Officer working from the Nottingham Traffic Wing until its closure.

He leaves his wife Ann and children Heidi, Adam and Chloe.

At this time there are no funeral arrangements but these will be posted in due course.
