It is with sadness that I report the death of Retired Police Dog Handler James Michael BARNES 84yrs (Retired Pc47) who sadly passed away after illness at his Selston home on the 22nd May 2024.
Mick joined the Nottingham City Police in 1965 working at Central and Canning Circus. Later he became a Police Dog Handler from where he retired in 1980. He was a widower, his wife Brenda having passed away in 2020.
Prior to his Police Service, Mick had been a Collier at a local mine.
Mick has a Step-Daughter Lindsay
Mick was married previously and has children, Gary Barnes (PC Barnes, 1478, retired), Estella, his wife (Daughter in Law) and Teresa Bradshaw (nee Barnes) (Daughter) with Viv Bradshaw, her husband.
There are also his grandchildren, Paul, Luke, Pearl and Holly and six great grandchildren.
Sadly both spouses are deceased
His passing was only reported today so as you will appreciate, at this time there are no funeral arrangements. These will be posted in due course together with a photograph of Mick which is being sent to me later today.
Our thoughts and condolences are extended to the family at this very sad time.
