Book of Condolence – Spouse of a Retired Officer – Valerie Turner

It is with deep sadness that I report the death of Valerie Jean TURNER 83yrs who sadly passed away after a short illness, in hospital, on the 6th December 2025. Val as she was known, was the wife of Retired Detective Superintendent Ron TURNER.

Val was employed by the Nottingham City Police in 1960 as a Typist/Secretary in the CID Typing Pool and also for Special Branch. Her ability was described as outstanding. She left the Police Service in 1971 to have a family. She and Ron married in 1967 and had been together some 58 years.

She leaves her husband Ron, daughter Wendy and son Adrian. She also leaves Grandchildren, Isaac, Louis, Charlie and Sam.

Her funeral arrangements are as follows:

A Cremation Service will take place at 1pm Thursday 8th January 2026 at Bramcote Crematorium, Coventry Lane, Bramcote, Nottingham. After the funeral service there will be a Celebration of her Life to be held at Wollaton Park Golf Club.

Ron and his family would welcome friends and former colleagues to attend should they wish to do so in order to pay their respects.

The undertakers are Julie WESSON Funeral Services of Beeston, Nottingham.

Book of Condolence – Spouse of Retired Officer – Patricia Gill

It is with sadness that I report the death of Patricia Ann GILL who sadly passed away in Bassetlaw Hospital on the 11th December 2025 after a short illness. She 80yrs.

Patricia was the wife of Retired Police Constable 1179 Derek William GILL.

At this time I have no further details and no funeral arrangements. As soon as I am able I will update members.

Book of Condolence – Retired Special Commandant – John Pritchard

It is with sadness that I report the death of John PRITCHARD 76yrs who was the Retired Special Commandant. He passed away at his home address after a short illness yesterday the 1st December 2025. John was a member of NARPO.

He leaves his wife Barbara, son Neil and daughter Andrea. I have yet to speak with family and will update as soon as I am able. John was a member of the Nottinghamshire Police Male Voice choir and also the Bestwood Male Voice Choir. It is known that he was singing with the choir as recently as last weekend.

When I have spoken with family I will update members with more detail and any funeral arrangements.

Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – Rachel Louise Griffith

Members may already be aware from content on Social Media, but it is with sadness that I report the death of Retired Police Sergeant 2104 Rachel Louise GRIFFITH who passed away peacefully in hospital in the early hours of the 2nd December 2025. She was only 57yrs of age.

Rachel joined the Nottinghamshire Police in November 1990 and retired in November 2020. For those of you who don’t know her, she is the daughter of Retired Assistant Chief Constable Edward (Ted) GRIFFITH who sadly passed away in 2018. She is also the sister to retired Detective Constable Dave GRIFFITH Rachel served most of her service at Mansfield and its surrounding area until she was promoted to Sergeant and moved to Radford Road and subsequently back to Mansfield. She also carried out  tours of duty with the UN Peacekeeping Forces in Bosnia and Sierra Leone.

She leaves her mother Irene, brother David and sisters Sally and Amanda.

There are no known funeral arrangements as yet but having spoken to family it is hoped to have a funeral that will be attended by as many of her friends and former colleagues who are able to attend and to pay their respects. When these funeral details are known they will be posted to members.

It is with sadness that I report the death of Retired Officer Dc1109 Kenneth WALPOLE who died suddenly and unexpectedly at his Gloucestershire home on the 2nd November 2025. He was 71yrs.

Ken joined the Police Service in 1984 and retired in 1997 on Medical Grounds. He worked mainly out of Bestwood and Oxclose Lane as a Detective Constable.

Her leaves his wife Wendy and sons, Tom and Luke.

Due the passing of time and the late notification the funeral has already taken place and the undertakers were Beechwood Funeral Services of Gloucester.

Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – William Walker

It is with sadness that I report the death of retired Police Officer William (Bill) Harry WALKER Pc917 who sadly passed away at his Stapleford home on the 22nd November 2025 after a long illness. He was 78yrs.

Bill, as he was known joined the Police Service in September 1966 and retired in April 1996. On retirement from the service he went to work for the Nottinghamshire Coroners Office as a Coroners Officer. He served most of his time at Beeston and Stapleford and if I remember correctly spent some time in the Collators office at Beeston. (I’m sure Bob ABRAHALL will correct me if I am wrong.)

Bill leaves his wife Christine and sons Duncan and Alexander and their respective wives Kirsty and Kathrine.

Bill WALKER, Retired Pc917, sadly passed away on the 22nd November 2025 after a long illness. He was 78yrs.

His funeral arrangements are as follows:-

A Cremation Service will take place at Bramcote Crematorium, Coventry Lane, Bramcote, Nottingham at 1pm Tuesday 16th December 2025. This will be followed by a Celebration of his Life to be held at the Risley Park Public House, Risley, Derbyshire DE72 3SS.

The family would welcome friends and former colleagues to attend should they wish to pay their respects.

Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – Alastair David Armstrong

It is with sadness that I report the death of retired Police Officer Alastair David ARMSTONG Pc1652 who sadly passed away in the Queens Medical Centre on the 12th November 2025 after a long illness. He was 75yrs.

Alastair joined the Police Service in October 1974 and retired in May 2000. He served at Keyworth, The Meadows, and West Bridgford Control Room.

He leaves his wife Mary, daughters, Susan and Jane and sons, John, Patrick and Sean. He leaves 10 grandchildren, Alfie, Charlie, Frankie, Lennox, Max, Lucy, Jack, Joseph, Matthew and Isobel.

Alastair ARMSTRONG sadly passed away on the12th November 2025 after a long illness. He was 75yrs.

His funeral arrangements are as follows:-

A Memorial Service will take place at 11am Tuesday 9th December 2025 at St. Margaret Clitherow Church, Willowbrook, Keyworth. Nottingham NG12 5BB. This will be followed by a burial service to be held at Keyworth Burial Grounds.

A Celebration of his Life will then be held at The Carriage Hall at PERKINS, Station Road, Plumtree, Nottingham NG12 5NA.

The family would welcome friends and former colleagues to attend both the Memorial Service and the Celebration of his Life should they wish to pay their respects. Please note however, that the burial service is wholly private and for family members only. I would ask that you respect family wishes in respect of this part of the proceedings.

Book of Condolence – Police Widow – Vera Greensmith

Vera GREENSMITH sadly passed away in her Newark Care Home on the 31st October 2025. She was 95yrs.

She was the widow of Pc John (Jack) Henry GREENSMITH who passed away in 2005. Sadly I do not have his service history.

Jack was the Secretary of the Notts Branch of NARPO in the 1980/90, he was made a Life Member for his dedication to the Branch

At this time I do not have any funeral details but these will be posted if they become available.
