John TOMLINSON Retired Police Constable 835 sadly passed away on the 5th October 2025 after a short illness. He was 85yrs. He joined the Police Service in August 1964 and retired in March 1995. Sadly I do not have his full service history.
He was a widower and leaves son John and daughter Lisa.
His funeral has already taken place.
Knew John from way back, though we lost contact after he retired. His dad, George Tomlinson, had served in the old Nottinghamshire Constabulary and retired in the early 1950’s. [He was, I believe, one of the first Traffic Patrol officers in that old force] So, by joining the job, John was keeping up a family tradition and, as far as I can say, worked the Mansfield areas. Some may remember him from his days on the Police Dog Section in the 1970’s and, later, as Property Officer at the old Mansfield nick. Always a laid back, unflustered and easy-going bloke. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP John.

I remember Tommo from the old Mansfield Police Station where he was the office man on Rota 1.
He was an ex dog-man.
I think his wife was Sheila and I used to meet up with them in the Newgate Lane, Social Club .
Great times, not forgotten.A lovely couple.
