It is with sadness that I report the death of Retired Police Constable 716 Ronald (Ron) James NIGHTINGALE who was 87yrs of age who passed away at his Aspley home on the 8th August 2025 following a short illness.
Prior to his Police Service Ron worked as a labourer at Shipstones Brewery in Nottingham. He joined the Police Service in October 1956 and retired in August 1985. He served at both St Anns and mostly at Hyson Green working the old Gregory Boulevard Police Station and the new Radford Road Police Station.
He leaves his wife Carol, sons Geoffrey, Christopher and Lee, Grandchildren Sheridan, Mykala, Jamie, Jessica, Charlie, and Libby and Great Grandchildren Olive, Mason, Rex, Rafe, Miles and Zachary.
funeral arrangements are as follows:-
A Cremation Service will take place at Bramcote Crematorium, Coventry Lane, Bramcote at 11.30am Wednesday 10th September 2025. The family would welcome friends and former colleagues to attend should they wish to pay their respects. One of Ron’s last wishes is that attendees dress brightly and not in dark clothing.
After the cremation service there will be a Celebration of his Life to be held at The Nuthall Pub (formerly the Broxtowe Inn). Again the family would welcome friends and former colleagues to attend should they so wish but for catering purposes they ask that you drop a short email to son Geoff at:- gpn_leadman@hotmail.com indicating your intention to attend.
The undertakers are Baggaleys Funeral Services of Sherwood, Nottingham.
In my initial circulation I omitted to mention Ron’s service to members. Ron served for many years as the Constables Representative on the Police Federation. I am sure there will be many members who will be grateful for his advice and assistance during that time. Rest in Eternal Peace Ron, and thank you for your service.
Our thoughts and condolences are extended to the family at this very sad time.

Ron was Dc at Hyson Green CID when i did my aide in 1977/78. He was one the officers that “looked after me” together with Aubrey Cresswell, Derek Brown, Phil Phillips, Phil Perkins and Aileen Oliver. A great team. Ron was a dedicated officer and it was my pleasure to work with him on a number of enquiries. He also ran the Children’s Christmas party for a number of years. A sad day when I heard of his passing. RIP Ron.
