Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – Anthony Waite

It is with sadness that I report the sudden and unexpected death of Retired Police Constable 742 Anthony WAITE who sadly passed away on the 6th July 2025 at his Woodthorpe home. He was 66 years of age.

Tony as he was known joined the Nottinghamshire Police as a Cadet and was appointed to the regular force in February 1977. He retired in February 2007. He served at Central, Arnold, Oxclose Lane and on retirement became a Civilian Case Worker on the Domestic Violence Unit.

Those of you that know him would know that Tony had been a widower for approximately 8 years, his dear wife Elaine having passed away at a very young age. They had no children but he leaves his brother Gary and sister Tracey. I have yet to speak to either of them so am unable to furnish further information at this time. I will of course update members when I am able.

Our thoughts and condolences are extended to the family at this very sad time.

  1. I remember Tony from Central in the early 1990s.

He would have been on 3 Section.

.His Sergeant would have been Malc Denis.

An excellent Policeman and a really nice man.

  2. So sad to hear the news about Tony. We were PCs together at Central in the 70s and for a time I was his supervisor. A lovely lad who was so popular with his colleagues. Our paths didn’t cross again until I was his Superintendent on the old D Division/South Notts Division. A wonderful and very efficient and popular Beat Manager working out of Arnold – High Street.

Anybody who would have worked Central in the 70s, would have known Elaine who not only a very nice lady but was an excellent store detective. Elaine was taken far too soon, as was Tony. It is a great sadness they were robbed of a long and happy retirement together. RIP Tony and my sincere condolences to your family.

  3. So Sorry to hear this sad news. Tony was on my shift in the city in the 80s for a number of years. I also Fly fished with him when he was a member of the club. A truly lovely guy who will be sadly missed by all who new him. Taken far to soon. R.I.P. my friend

  4. I’ve only just heard and I’m gutted. Tony was one of the good guys. A lovely fella and a good copper. A quiet, thoughtful gentleman. One of the best. He was my tutor constable on 3 section at Central when I joined in 1981. We were a close section and spent time going out together with our wives and girlfriends, so I also knew Elaine, really sad to also hear of her passing.

We had great times, memories to treasure, and lots of laughs. Thanks mate. You are missed.
