Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – Michael Brookes

It is with great sadness that I report the sudden and unexpected death of Retired Police Superintendent Michael BROOKES (Mick) aged 69yrs. Mick was walking in Derbyshire yesterday 27/2/2025 with a friend and former colleague, I understand they may have been in the area of Carsington Water when Mick collapsed. It appears he may have suffered a heart attack from which he was unable to recover. He was subsequently taken to a hospital in Chesterfield but sadly nothing could be done for him.

Mick joined the Nottinghamshire Police in February 1981 but had previously served in the Hong Kong Police as a direct entrant at the Rank of Inspector. He retired in Notts in August 2008 in the Rank of Superintendent. He spent a considerable period of his service at Canning Circus.

He leaves his wife Pauline, son Christopher and daughter Rachael.

As you will appreciate this is a very recent notification so I am unable to give further information at this time. I will update members when I am able.

Our thoughts and condolences are extended to the family at this very sad time.

  1. Such a shock when I heard the sad news. I bumped into Michael in Nottingham late last year and we spoke about all things good. A true gentleman and a wonderful human being I always found him very approachable and he always had time for you.

Condolences to your family at this sad time, you will be missed Michael god bless and may you rest in peace.

  3. What sad news. I first met Mick was he was my PC in the Research Dept. A very keen and exceptionally well spoken lad. Later he served as our first DI in the Street Crime (Robbery) Unit at Central and led a professional team very well indeed. Would always nicely chat about rugby and his Hong Kong service and he was very good company. A thoroughly nice man taken far too soon. RIP Mick and my sincerest condolences to your family.

  4. So sorry to hear about the passing of Mick whom I had the pleasure of working with in the same C.I.D office at Radford Road. As Mark said above always approachable, witty and intelligent. Whenever anyone was in for a rollicking Mick would always lift the tension by singing the little ditty “There could be trouble ahead” always guaranteed to raise a laugh.

Mick whilst being a busy Ds at Raddy Road also found time to complete a part time Law Degree at Nottm Trent Uni where he was .mentored by a former colleague Kim who remembers Mick for his excellent debating skills.

Our condolences go to Micks family.
