I have just been informed that around 4.30pm this afternoon 8/7/2024, retired Police Officer Ian Charles LOMAS (T/Insp 338) aged 65yrs sadly passed away in hospital after a very short illness. His family were around him at the time.
As you will all appreciate this is a very recent notification so I am unable to give any further information at this time.
Our thoughts and condolences are extended to his family at this very sad time.

So sorry to hear this sad news. Sgt Lomas always made me laugh when I saw him down in the dungeons. A genuinely lovely guy.
I was just thinking about him the other day as I haven’t bumped into him in Woodhouse for quite some time.
May he rest in Peace.

I worked with Ian at Mansfield but also he was a member of Mansfield Senior Reds Walking Football Team these past few years and it has come as a great shock to all of us. Condolences to his family at this sad time.

Met Ian on the job and more recently at walking football, where I couldn’t keep up. Always a bright chap with plenty of go. Sorry to hear of his demise. Condolences to all family and friends.

Ian always set high standards for himself and the organisation alike. He always remained compassionate and fair with a sprinkling of humour. What sad and apparently unexpected news this is. My thoughts are with his immediate family at this difficult time.

Ian was my Sgt at Sutton in Ashfield (beat team) and was fantastic, Ian was really supportive when I had my first child due health issues my son had at birth Ian was amazing at putting me at ease with coming back to work. My condolences are with Ian’s wife Rosemary and his family at this tragic time x

Very sad news indeed. Ian was a fine and totally professional Officer but, like so many of his colleagues, I will always particularly remember his sense of humour, kindness and broad smile. He was a pleasure to work with.

Very sad to hear of the death of Ian. I worked with him in the late nineties at Kirkby In Ashfield – some trying times but also some fun times.

I found Ian to be a very genuine, conscientious and all round, very nice man. He was a good, solid police officer who could be relied upon never to let colleagues or the police service down. I did not know Ian well, yet he always greeted me with warmth, affection and empathy. My sincere condolences to the family. RIP Ian

I was so saddened to hear this news. I was a PC on Ian’s last shift at Ollerton. He was in my corner when I needed him to be, that counts for a lot and has lasting value. Gone too soon, but he won’t be forgotten by the people he made an impression on.

So sorry to hear of Ian’s passing. We met as PCs at Central in the 70s and we saw a good deal of each other as our shifts crossed over.
A quiet lad who was very popular with all of his colleagues.
We didn’t meet professionally again until I was one of his senior officers at the old A Division. Ian by then was, by reputation an excellent Sergeant. A real professional.
Always polite and friendly. He will be greatly missed.
