Book of Condolence – Retired Officer – James Michael Barnes

It is with sadness that I report the death of Retired Police Dog Handler James Michael BARNES 84yrs (Retired Pc47) who sadly passed away after illness at his Selston home on the 22nd May 2024.

Mick joined the Nottingham City Police  in 1965 working at Central and Canning Circus. Later he became a Police Dog Handler from where he retired in 1980. He was a widower, his wife Brenda having passed away in 2020.

Prior to his Police Service, Mick had been a Collier at a local mine.

Mick has a Step-Daughter Lindsay

Mick was married previously and has children, Gary Barnes (PC Barnes, 1478, retired), Estella, his wife (Daughter in Law) and Teresa Bradshaw (nee Barnes) (Daughter) with Viv Bradshaw, her husband.
There are also his grandchildren, Paul, Luke, Pearl and Holly and six great grandchildren.

Sadly both spouses are deceased

His passing was only reported today so as you will appreciate, at this time there are no funeral arrangements. These will be posted in due course together with a photograph of Mick which is being sent to me later today.

Our thoughts and condolences are extended to the family at this very sad time.

  1. Really sorry to read of Alan Linleys and Mick Barnes death. I played rugby with Alan and enjoyed many happy afternoons in his company. I was the PTI at Pannal Ash when Mick came on his initial training. We had some laughs when out on cross country runs. Bob Edwards

  2. Like many of his era, tough uncompromising character whose presence in difficult situations made a difference. But beneath that toughness was someone who had a real sense of humour. As a ‘young sprog’ in the 60’s it was people like Mick I looked up to. RIP Mick.
