I’m so sad to hear of Gareth’s passing. Gareth was a uniform Sgt when I first started on the job at Gregory Boulevard in 1980 and my Det Sgt in the late 80s at Radford Road. Gareth was a true gentleman, he had a cracking sense of humour but did not suffer fools gladly. I last bumped into Gareth a few years ago at the MacArthur Glen retail park where we had a catch up and put the world to rights! My condolences go out to his wife, his family and his friends. R.I.P mate you’ll be sadly missed.

This is such sad news. My thoughts, prayers and condolences are with Gareth’s family and friends at this terrible time. Gareth was a class act. I had the good fortune of spending a lot of time with Gareth, due to playing rugby with the Police team during the same period. He was a fierce competitor who loved the game and all activities associated with the same. RIP Gareth, you will be missed but never forgotten.

Gareth always enjoyed your company, the humour, laughter. Your strong personality, no nonsense, say it as you see it attitude made you a great cop to work with whenever the opportunity arose. Will miss you at next City Police Reunion but will raise a glass in your honour. RIP Gareth.

Such a sad loss of a lovely man who wouldn’t pass you by without having a chat. I told him that we had named our son after him and without taking a breath he said, ‘Goodwin’s an unusual first name’ RIP Gareth

We first met in 1966, when you arrived in Nottingham from the valleys of Brecon, South Wales, with your new wife Pauline beside you. You then started your journey in the Nottingham City Police Force, Northern Division, at Hyson Green. A new land, a new City, a new job and a huge new challenge. That took great courage.
My closest friend and ally for 55 years, sharing both the brilliant, the good and the sometimes bad times together. We had so many laughs and just a few tears as well on the way. Thank you for sharing that journey with me Gareth, it was my pleasure.
You showed your true courage right to the last my friend. A true fighter.
Goodbye Gareth. Rest in Peace

Sad news. A good bloke and a great copper. He rang me a little while ago because he thought I might be feeling out of touch and lonely because of Covid. We had a long talk about the old days. I was so pleased. Good bye Gareth. Condolences to the family.

I am extremely saddened to read of Gareth’s passing.
I first met him over 50 years ago when we worked the same shift pattern at Hyson Green S.D. – him from Bar Lane, while I was at Carrington – so it was inevitable we might often turn up at the same job, especially on night shift. I had, and still have, a great respect for Gary, both as a Policeman and as an individual, and though many years have now passed since we last spoke I still hold the memory of his lovely Welsh accent and tone of voice. God Bless you Gareth – R.I.P

I am deeply saddened to hear of Gareth’s passing. I first met him over 50 years ago when we worked the same shift pattern at Hyson Green SD – Gareth from Bar Lane while I did Carrington – so it was inevitable we’d often attend the same job, especially on night shifts. Gareth was a lad I had a lot of respect for [and still do] both as a fellow officer and an individual. Many years have passed since then but I still hold the memory of his lovely Welsh accent in my head. I would like to pass on my condolences to his family. God Bless you, Gareth. R.I.P
