  2. I will always think warmly of Hilda, Inspector Mellors to me, a new Probationer at Mansfield back in 1972. Always very kind, friendly and supportive. A lovely lady.

    • Thank you so much. This means the world. I am her niece and I absolutely adored her. She was an absolute inspiration to me. I became a Solicitor with her support and she was so proud of me although I’m sure she would have preferred my going into the force! Thank you for your kind words.

I first met Hilda as Chief Inspector Mellors when I was a young Pc at Retford. She made an appointment with me !!! to do the annual inspection of my Police house. She really was a friendly women and helpful with organising decoration etc.She was a tall strong looking women who I would imagine surprised a few drunks and villains in her time.

  4. Remembered as a well respected colleague and friend. Hilda ( Miss Mellors) was my first inspector when arriving at Mansfield in 1972. A firm but very fair gaffer with a wicked sense of humour . My last meeting with her was with other ex women officer when I can say she was in top form to say she was90.
RIP Hilda you will be remembered fondly

  5. Hilda was my Inspector when I was stationed at Beeston. She was absolutely brilliant, couldn’t have asked for anyone nicer. We seem to get along very well and when I left the Police she sent me a lovely letter – which I still have – and we exchanged Christmas cards ever since. I phoned her last year and she sounded just the same! She will be sadly missed. One on her own.
