What a fine man to have known and an honour to work with.
Dick tutored me back in 1981 at TD (N) and we worked together often on the Motorway Unit.
He was a big character in every sense of the word.
A fine well respected officer who will be sadly missed.
Condolences to Jan and family.

Worked with Dick on many occasions at both the traffic wing and motorway. He was a fine, knowledgeable police officer and a great friend both at work and off duty. We had some wonderful times, and a few scrapes together, including the time we nearly got ourselves kicked off traffic by the chief inspector who unfortunately did not see the funny side of our actions on one occasion. A true friend who was taken so unexpectedly and will be sadly missed.
Thoughts are with Jan, Ant and family
RIP Big Dick

“Worked” with Dick, double crewed on many occasions at TD(N) , I say “worked” as usually at the start of the shift we had a few places and people to see which were on Dicks “to do” list for the day. However, including getting a few “baddies” in the pocket book at the same time. Dick was the man to watch your back when the inevitable situations became a bit “iffy”. You could rely on him 100%. Also knew Dick off duty – when we had the “card” nights. (all night) The players ?, – you know who you are. Dick was of the old school of policing, as was I. Happy days and fond memories. If the funeral/covid rules were not with us, Dick would have had a great show of his work mates there.

“My friend Dick”
We all lay claim to having friends, the number of which will vary but in the main can be counted in the fingers of one hand.
Not so with my friend Dick!
Dick’s special gift was that not only did his friends number many, many more than usual, it was that each of them at the time of being with him felt that they were his number one.
Thank you Dick for being my friend.
Love to Jan

A gentle giant with a voice the match. Remember being in the briefing room at the Traffic Wing when the strap to my sorry excuse of a truncheon broke. Dick said I’ve got a spare you can have. A minute later he appeared with a really heavy dark wood truncheon die stamped 1514 in trade. It served me well until sadly I had to give it up for the side handled baton. Rest in peace big fella. My condolences to all the family.

Many happy memories, worked a lot with Dick, he was on my shift, 1514 alongside with 1513 (me), I’ll not describe the night Dick fell asleep in the early hours on Meadow Lane……we mounted the pavement and I shouted, Dick was driving and I woke him before we hit the wall hey ho, we survived without having to put a report in. Then we had a job in W. Bridgford, we were in the plain car, caught up with a suspect who escaped, an absolute nutter who jumped off the third floor of a block of flats……finally caught but one of us suffered the consequences of a police dog, ….me. Dick, my long standing collegue and trusted partner, will never forget our time together, we had some good times and laughs………….Rob AKA Spike/Rob
