Notification of the death of a retired Police Officer

Brian Henry Smith

It is with sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Brian Henry Smith, aged 81 years, a retired Police Officer who died on Thursday 18 March 2021.  (Not Covid related.)   Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.

Brian joined the County Force in 1963 and began his career at Retford.   He then transferred to Bassetlaw Traffic Wing and on promotion to Sergeant was stationed at Central.    He retired in 1992.    He was married to Marion Smith, nee Johnson who was a Policewoman at Retford. 

Funeral details for the Brian Henry Smith

The funeral for Brian is at 4.30pm. Wednesday 7 April 2021 at Gedling Crematorium.   

No flowers but any donations will be for the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK.   You can do so by sending the cheque to the funeral director, Geo. Hansons, 13 Watnall Road, Hucknall, Nottingham. NG15 7LD.  Please attach a note with your details and that it is for Brian Henry Smith.

  1. To Marion and family – with deepest sympathy. It was a privilege to have worked with Brian when stationed at Beeston. He was always most kind and helpful in giving appropriate guidance when required, and then later as a friend in retirement. He will be greatly missed. RIP Brian.

  3. Condolences and sympathy to family. Brian was my first sergeant at Central when I joined in 1982. A very good sergeant who looked after his shift, a real gentleman and a friend. RIP Brian.

  5. To Marion and family – with deepest sympathy. I knew Brian and Marion way back in 1965 when we were at Retford. I was one of the spotty Cadets. He always had a cheery smile and when we met years later when he was a Central and I was Nottingham Traffic; he was still that helpful person and didn’t appear to have altered.

  7. My wife and I worked and socialised with Brian and Marion at Retford in the mid 1960’s;
    they were good times. Brian was a kind and thoughtful man who had a positive outlook. He was a pleasure to work with and we were very saddened to learn of his death.
    We offer Marion and family our deepest sympathy.
