Mick was a character. He was a Dc at Carlton when I first met him. Dodgy teeth and dodgy suits. Went to interview a witness with him in their house. Mick straight away lights a cigarette and offers witnesses one who says sorry don’t smoke but you carry on.
Rather than ask for an ashtray Mick slips his shoe off and flicks the ash in the back of his shoe!
Takes statement puts shoe back on and we leave.
RIP Mick every time I saw you I smiled.

Mick dead! No way, I thought he was bomb proof. Pete’s memory, above, reminded me that at a CID Dinner he once got through 5 fags between the first and second course! I shared a small office with him at the old Carlton nick, I now have COPD but I really enjoyed his company in those days, never a dull moment when you were privileged to be in his company. I will miss you mate. Have a well earned rest. Fred Case

Sadly I only worked with Mick towards the end if his service. But he was everything you could wish for. Tremendous character, pleasure to work with and loved by everyone. Happy times, Mick. I hope you enjoyed them too.

Worked with Mick at Canal Street C,I.D. from 1971. His enthusiasm for the job was infectious.
He never recorded how much time off he was owed, rest days that he had missed or bothered
too much about his annual leave allowance. We set up the prisoner handling unit on match
days at Canal Street and he being a Magpies die-hard fan never had too much sympathy
for Forest supporters coming into custody. With friends we shared much laughter with
his lifes experiences after retirement. R.I.P. Mick

Sad news indeed to hear of Mick’s passing.
I worked with him on C.I.D at Canal Street in the 70,s. We worked together on many cases. He was bright, hardworking and a thoroughly decent human being.

Mick was a hardworking old style detective. He was always great company to be with even in his retirement from the Force. It was a pleasure to have known him. Many happy and amusing memories of him.

Such fond memories I have of working “down the Drive” with Mick before our hands were tied behind our backs. Mick was a true chip off the old block. I had the pleasure of working for a short time under the old block also. What a Section we had in the 60s. We worked hard and played hard and owned the streets and Mick was a big part of that. R.I.P.516 you have earned it

First came across Mick in 1971 when I first joined the job and was stationed at Canal Street. Became good friends over the years and from 1985, when we moved to Carlton, we worked together on many jobs. Mick was a one off. Great character and great to work with. Had good times together both on and off duty. A dear friend who will be missed but left great memories. RIP Mick.
