Details of the death of a retired Police Officer
Samuel Francis Smith
It is with sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Samuel Francis Smith, known as Frank Smith, aged 90 years, a retired Police Officer. Frank died on Sunday 10 January 2021. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
The funeral is Tuesday 2 February 2021 at Gedling Crematorium. As you know there are restrictions on the number of people attending funerals so members can their condolences below.
Frank joined the County Force in 1950 and served at Warsop, Newark, Mansfield, Newark Traffic, West Bridgford and retired in 1985 as Chief Inspector in charge of the Guildhall Cells.

Frank was a great gaffer, work with him at Bingham and Guildhall cells, even lived near him and Barbara at Radcliffe on Trent, condolences to family.

Happy memories of Frank on Traffic and in retirement at Radcliffe. Lived a good life and had a good career.

Fond memories of Frank through police and golf on occasion of a match at his club to decide to represent the police team or his club so arriving in uniform in a police patrol car parking in the club car park for the duration and then playing for his club.Can you imagine that in today’s climate. Typical of a first class man . R I P.

Frank was one of the Inspectors when I started at Bingham. A cracking guy with a sense of fun. So different from some today.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Barbara and her family. I have fond memories of growing up very near Frank and Barbara in Radcliffe on Trent . My father, Malcolm Poole a retired Police Inspector has also sadly passed away last week, so It’s a very difficult time . Frank was a lovely man and he will be missed. So sorry for your loss. Sally
