  8. I remember Butch when I was firearms training with Nottm Traffic. Absolutely a lovely man who always had colleagues at heart but could always make you laugh. Remember when I had a difficult arrest. Didn’t realise I was outside his house. He was retired but came straight to my assistance. Couldn’t have wished for a better backup. A big loss to the Police family.RIP Butch

So many laughs with Butch and Mel at Eppo range and RAF Newton where he would jump out of some dark cubby hole shooting blanks and frighten the living daylights out of us.

  16. Sad news indeed.
The loss of a fine retired Northern Division City Police Officer. Butch had strength of character coupled with total reliability, each of these characteristics tempered with a good sense of humour. He was a great example to all young officers, as I was in the sixties. He maintained these qualities throughout his entire service.
    Thank you Butch.
My sincere condolences to your family.

  17. Farewell Butch, you were always the best of us.From your ‘copper plate’ writing to your ‘touch typing’ – you were as big as John Wayne and we all tried to be like you but failed.
The term First Class P.C. usually denotes a gaffers man but Butch was honest and true.
    A great loss.

What a great man. Great memories of when I first met you and worked with you at the
New Hucknall police station on Watnall Road onamalgamation in 1968. We had some laughs working the switchboard, feeding and conveying prisoners to the Shire Hall and Guildhall courts in that huge Bedford van, and also keeping the coke boiler running to heat the place. Happy times.
