Alan “Showed me round” on Traffic in 1969 It wasn’t really my fault when the Police dog bit him. Was fortunate to meet him again by coincidence with his wife on a trip to New Zealand. Always a gentleman. Sad news.

I only knew Alan briefly when I transferred to TD(N) in 1987 when he was the Station Sergeant. He was so welcoming and kind, something that I obviously remember to this day. R.I.P. Alan.

9.50pm, 2nd December, 1962. Paraded for my first ever shift with 15/16 others at the Guildhall, one of whom was Alan. Was fortunate enough to be with him for the week and was made to feel part of the section immediately. Remained friends since then our paths crossing at various times and meeting occasionally in Beeston since we retired. A true gent, great Policeman and a privilege to have known him

I had the privilege of working with Alan as a sergeant at the motorway in 1986/7. As has been mentioned by everyone he was a true gentleman and great to work alongside. When the Motorway Section did a sponsored ride to Paris, Alan and I were the support crew and there is a photograph of us in uniform in Paris with the riders at the rides conclusion. Happy memories.
Condolences to the family.

Had the pleasure of serving with Alan when he was the Motorway Sergeant and I was seconded there for 6 months, always kind and courteous, and very knowledgeable, used to make me smile when on giving his name of the ‘phone, always said the same thing, “Sgt Ping, that’s P for Peter, I, N, G.” Rest in Peace Alan.
