Notification of the death of a retired Police Officer

Philip Bruce Kennedy

It is with sadness that we have to inform you of the death of Philip Bruce Kennedy, aged 82 years, a retired Police Officer who died today, Friday 30 October 2020.   Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.     

Bruce as he preferred to be known, joined the Surrey Police after leaving the Royal Navy in 1965.   After 8 years he transferred to Nottingham Police and served at Beeston, The Meadows and Central.   He retired in 1993 on reaching the age of 55 years.

  1. Deepest condolences to the family.. will always remember Bruce with fondness, what a great character. First met him when we were working out of Queens Drive he insisted in calling the D.S. “Sailor “ much to his dismay. I met him later in service when he became the Navigator of the yacht we we racing in the Police Offshore Sailing Championships.
    A true gentleman will be sorely missed.

  3. To Jan and family – with Deepest Sympathy.
    It is with great appreciation that I had the privilege of working with Bruce during our time at Hyson Green and Beeston. He was always so loyal and caring in every aspect of police work, continually admired by all colleagues and members of the public. His previous naval qualifications encouraged so many of us to go sailing with him, on voyages he sponsored in raising money for “Guide Dogs for the Blind and the RLBI”. While he was at the helm everyone was safe. RIP Bruce.

  4. Nothing was ever a problem with Bruce, always available to help and give sound advice. Knew him at Beeston whilst he was a D.Sgt. Always had a smile on his face, a true gent with story’s to tell. Will be sadly missed, Condolences to his family.

    first Sgt for a while at Hyson Green and then worked with him later on in my service at Beeston. A true gent. RIP Bruce
