  3. Lovely man. I joined in 1971 and recall being on the same local procedures course as John, at Epperstone.
I had no transport at the time and he offered me a lift on the back of his motorcycle, in winter, in the snow. Must have been a site for sore eyes. I was very grateful though at the time. He never changed over the years I knew him. He will be missed. RIP John.

  12. I’ll remember John as a great stalwart of all the good the committee at Oxclose Lane bar did for the community, in the days when we could, the bingo, OAP parties and the like. I’ll never forget the time he turned up strutting around in a newly purchased checked jacket. I went home and got 4 of my dad’s very similar jackets. At 10pm, once our shift had finished, Tony Webster, myself and two others walked into the bar wearing the jackets. His face was a picture and his response rather colourful ! A great bloke who will be sadly missed. My condolences to the family. Dave Black.

  18. I was with john at OLPS in the same office for a while. He was a little older than me but was always helpful and cheerful. I recall he used to recount tales of a ‘dance’ group he was in with 4 other cops……..name fails me now, not the Chippendales but similar. Lovely person and a loss to his family and others that knew him.

  19. Sad loss, too early, condolences to your family John. We worked together on the “new” burglary team for quite some time, not sure now how many we cleared up but at least everyone got the best service and we had fun doing it. Still use your recipe for Christmas Turkey stuffing mate, lovely.
RIP John, great times both on and off duty.

  24. This is one funeral that myself and the wife , June would have been proud to attend and give our condolences in person . Really nice bloke , a steady hand on the wheel at all times. We cannot forget the performances of the ‘Sneintondales ‘ laugh a minute . They must have raised thousands of pounds for the ‘Wish upon a star’ charity’ and send no end of kids and their families on the holiday of a lifetime , which for many was the case.
He will be sadly missed and a very difficult act to follow . Memories will live for ever.
