  2. I was a Sgt on Joe’s shift in the early 80s
I only have happy memories of working with him – car sharing to get to Hamilton House and Radford Road and interminable hours in a transit van, BG03 for months on end in the miner’s dispute. We last saw Joe and Jean at Nottingham Concert Hall 4 years ago and he was the same cheerful easy going bloke. Rest in Peace Joe and all our thoughts to Jean and family. Stuart and Elaine Wright.

He was a good bloke and a fine police officer. I shall miss bumping into him from time to time. My condolences go out to his family at this sad time.

  5. Such sad news. Worked closely with Joe for three great years on SOU in the late 1970s, enjoyed every one of them. Total respect for a dedicated, reliable, and brave officer with a good sense humour. A lovely man who must be a great loss to his family.
    Rest in peace Joe.

  16. So sad to hear of the passing of one of the true gentlemen of the Police Service. Joe was my boss at Hamilton House in the early 80s and we shared a very happy transit van (BG03) in 1984 for several months. He often said “I may not always be right, but I am the boss” He was one of the best. RIP Joe. Deepest sympathy to Joe’s family.

  20. My Inspector on the Miner’s dispute in ’84 (BG13). Always the same bloke. What you saw was what you got. Dead straight, uncomplicated. (And a cracking footballer). A pleasure to work with. Condolences to the family. Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
