Notification of the Death of a Former Police Officer
John Barrett
It is with sadness that we have to inform you of the death of John Barrett, aged 77 years, a former Police Officer. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
John joined the City Police in 1962 and served at Central Division, Mechanised and the Vehicle Examiners Unit. He resigned from the Police in 1972 to seek other employment
First met John in 1959 when we worked at Bestwood Offices. Bill Voce was our boss. I joined Notts Cadets shortly after. we stayed in touch and I recall him joining the City Police and his love of cars and driving inevitably led to him joining Traffic. Happy memories of a long friendship with John and wife Sue. R.I.P big fella.

First met John in 1959 when we worked at NCB Bestwood Offices. Our boss was the legendary Bill Voce. I joined the Notts Cadets shortly after but we remained friends throughout the passing years. I remember him joining the City Police and his love of cars and driving inevitably would lead to him being attached to Mechanised Division (later Traffic). This friendship remained, and it was with sadness we heard of his passing. Our thought go to Sue and family. R.I..P. Big Fella.

2 years on the job, and onto Traffic, meeting John, who was working in Vehicle Examiners. Got on well. Many years later, we bought the house next to John and Sue, and I recognised him immediately. He helped us greatly with our house, even clearing the drains! We remained friends even after we moved away, and will continue friendship with Sue. So sad on hearing the news. Rest in peace John.
