  7. Nev, sharing lifts up to Dishforth P.T.C. in 1981 not really knowing what lay ahead was a little daunting at the time although your military background prepared you well.
Good memories of more relaxed times on residential courses together at Epperstone, playing 3-card-brag late into the evening.
I’m glad to have known you.

  8. Nev was conducting the Kirkby Colliery Welfare Band and the South Notts Hussars band right up until the lockdown. I am fortunate enough to be a member of the Kirkby Band as well as knowing Nev through work and through playing in other bands over the years. He was an extremely talented musician, composer and arranger and I know many, many people will miss him and his gentle, patient approach in the band-room. Please know there will be a memorial concert in his honour when we are all able to play again and everyone would be very welcome.
Nev was a well respected policeman and his loss is keenly felt.

  9. Rest in peace Nev.
A lovely man and a great asset to Selston.
I remember so many of our talks about music too during our time at Kirkby and, it was always great to see you again, after retirement, at local concerts when you were playing or conducting.
Very sincere condolences to all of your family. It’s very sad.

  11. Although I never worked with Nev, our paths crossed occasionally when I worked at Kirkby and Sutton and Nev worked Selston. Always happy, mostly smiling and a gentleman.
Margaret and I had the pleasure to see/hear Kirkby brass band at Carr Bank Manor park the summer before last and Nev was conducting – it was brilliant and Nev was in his elements.
    RIP Nev.

  12. My wife and I are a members of the Kirkby Colliery Band and Nev was our conductor. We were preparing for the summer concert season under his baton, so the band is truly shocked by his loss. He was an amazing musician, composer and arranger. He also conducted the South Notts Hussars Band. He will be very greatly missed and highly respected in the Brass Band movement as being very patient, kind and knowledgeable. He had a flair for bringing the best out of his players. As the band are unable to play at his funeral, we will be holding a memorial concert when we are able in Nev’s honour, all are welcome.See – http://www.kirkbycollieryband.com
I also knew Nev in the Police and he was a great bloke. Our sincere condolences to Nev’s family.
    ‘ Pianissimo ‘ RIP,

  13. I have been trying to post a comment in a book of condolence and I am having a problem actually posting it.

I can get into the book and create the comment but when I try to post it I either get a message telling me it can’t be posted, or if I enter my name and email I then have a page asking for my email and password. I have entered these but still my post is declined. I’ve even created a new password but this has not solved the problem.

I’d appreciate any help or advice you can give me.

    Thanks
